Pick Your Linux Server Flavor!
Linux is a UNIX-based, open-source operating system available in numerous distributions. Did you know that the Linux operating system powers a huge percentage of the world's best websites? This is because of the unprecedented reliability of the Linux Kernel.
A Linux virtual private server resource is deployed via the one-click application from the Atlantic.Net cloud computing image library. Each Linux cloud server is available as a 32bit or 64bit revision, and we include multiple versions of each distribution for the ultimate compatibility, and all Linux servers use SSD storage as standard.
- Ubuntu – it is estimated that Ubuntu powers 30% of the world’s websites; this is because Ubuntu is intuitive and incredibly user-friendly.
- Rocky Linux – the new kid on the block has backing from some of the biggest names in the industry. Rocky Linux is similar to Red Hat Enterprise Linux, only completely free.
- Debian – fast approaching 30 years in development, Debian offers a highly tuned and incredibly reliable experience. Debian is particularly good at containerized applications.
- Fedora – another distro that receives major sponsorship from Red Hat, its party trick is having bullet-proof stability, but with all the bells and whistles afforded by bigger software repos.
- FreeBSD – another lightweight Linux distribution approaching 30 years in development with incredible reliability and uncomplicated licensing.
- Arch – a fully functioning Linux distribution with a lightweight footprint. It’s super simple to use as it’s based on the popular Debian distribution.
- CentOS – despite the last release of CentOS being version 8.5, we still offer this distro because many customers still rely on this popular Linux distribution.

Top Linux VPS Hosting FAQ
Here are some of the top questions we are asked about our Linux server hosting.
What is Linux VPS hosting?
A Linux Virtual Private Server (VPS) is a viable alternative to dedicated server hosting, which allows users to take advantage of the latest tech in cloud servers backed by redundant systems.
Many clients prefer Linux cloud server hosting to a physical machine because they get full control: the same full root access and administrative server control as they would with dedicated servers without incurring the costs associated with running a dedicated environment.
What sets Linux VPS hosting in the cloud apart from old-fashioned VPSes is speed, agility, reliability, and affordability. All of these benefits are a result of virtually managing numerous physical servers that work together to process, store, and transfer client data.
Which Linux Is Best for VPS?
The operating system you choose depends entirely on the use case of your virtual servers, the most popular Linux virtual servers on our platform run Ubuntu, Rocky Linux server, and CentOS. However, we offer a choice of operating systems, one-click applications, and your choice of hosting control panel options, like cPanel.

What Is the Difference Between a Cloud VPS and a Dedicated Server?
A Cloud VPS is a virtual server hosted on a shared platform with guaranteed system assets (CPU, Disk, and Memory). A dedicated host is a physical host dedicated to a single user, and the user has all the resources on the server.
The Atlantic.Net Cloud service offers both VPS and dedicated hosts within the same environment, so you get all the perks on either platform. The workload of a VPS server varies from running websites, workstations, or general-purpose cloud servers. A dedicated host is usually used for hosting a significant number of websites or apps, intensive workloads, large numbers of virtual machines, or large production databases.
Whether you choose a VPS in our Public Cloud or to deploy VPS on your Dedicated Hosts, any Cloud servers will be available in a matter of seconds after being deployed. If you are interested in learning more about our dedicated hosts and if they are right for you, please contact one of our helpful advisors.
What Are the Advantages of Linux VPS Hosting?
With Linux VPS Hosting, you have complete isolation from all other VPS users in our data centers, giving users more resources, high performance, and a reliable Linux cloud server plan. No matter what other customers might be doing on the server, your Linux cloud server package is unaffected.
You get full root access to the Operating Systems, giving you complete control over the cloud server. You can install whatever applications you desire and make any configuration changes you might need.
What Is a KVM VPS?
A KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) is a cloud server that sits directly on physical hardware. System assets are dedicated are shared to KVM VPS, resulting in the isolation of CPU, Disk, and Memory at the hardware layer.
Why Should I Choose Atlantic.Net for Cloud Hosting?
VPS hosting, or cloud hosting, is best defined as a hosting solution that offers the affordability of shared hosting with the power and performance of dedicated hosting. To recap, shared hosting is when your server shares unreserved resources on a host. Dedicated hosting is exactly the opposite; your server is dedicated solely to you and has 100% access to all resources on the host.
VPS strikes a great balance between the two, as you get the benefits of having guaranteed resources on a host despite sharing with other clients. For example, if your VPS comes with 200 GB of storage, you get 200 GB of storage to use exclusively. If your Linux cloud server comes with 64GB of memory, no other VPS can use that memory. The resources are always there, no matter what. A VPS also offers the cost benefits of shared hosting, as VPS hosting is only a small percentage more expensive than shared hosting but is usually significantly cheaper than dedicated hosting.
What One-Click Apps Do You Offer on VPS Hosting?
